Training and Experience |
Dr. Jerome is a licensed clinical psychologist with over 15 years post-doctoral experience providing psychotherapy to individuals (child and adult), couples, and families. She enjoys working with individuals to address a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, attachment/relationship problems, parenting stress, anger/reactivity, self-esteem issues, and healthcare professional burnout and career-related stress. She has specialized training in treating the effects of trauma/PTSD (including complex/developmental trauma), chronic stress, and early relationship/attachment disruptions, and is an EMDR Certified Therapist, Approved Consultant, and Trainer.
In addition to a limited number of weekly therapy appointments, Dr. Jerome offers personalized Intensive Therapy Retreats (a series of full or half days of one-on-one work) focused on processing past trauma/experiences that contribute to ongoing stress, reactivity, anxiety, depression, self-doubt, relationship problems, anger and other symptoms. Intensive Retreats offer an efficient, effective, and gentle approach to processing one's past experiences in a way that can lead to significant improvements in quality of life and relationships, and improved sense-of-self. Although weekly therapy is available only to Virginia residents, Intensive Retreats are also available to out-of-state guests. She has experience with, and enjoys providing services to other therapists and healthcare providers to address the specific challenges related to healthcare work, including burnout and exposure to work-related trauma and stress. Dr. Jerome is also passionate about providing parent-training and support, both in individual/family therapy and through the Course in Effective Parenting, a course developed to promote healthy child development and effective parenting practices for local families. Dr. Jerome completed her master's and doctoral degrees (Ph.D.) in Clinical Psychology at the University of Virginia and is a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of Virginia. She completed her clinical internship at Virginia Treatment Center for Children at the Medical College of Virginia and was a resident in Pediatric and Adult Behavioral Health at Central Virginia Community Health Services. She has experience providing clinical services in schools, integrated healthcare settings, hospitals, and private practice, and has taught undergraduate psychology courses. She founded WellSpring Child and Family Psychology, PC in 2014, and has lived and worked as a psychologist in the Fredericksburg area since 2009. |
Therapeutic Approach |
Dr. Jerome uses an integrative approach to therapy, drawing from a number of treatment modalities including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, mindfulness techniques, EMDR/trauma treatment, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and play therapy techniques (including techniques from Parent Child Interaction Therapy) in order to best meet the needs of each individual client or family. For couples therapy, her approach draws heavily from Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, and she has completed Level 1 Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy.
Dr. Jerome is an EMDR Certified Therapist, Approved Consultant, and Trainer with the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA). She has been practicing EMDR for over 12 years, and regularly assists with EMDR trainings in addition to running consultation groups and providing individual EMDR consultation for other professionals. Dr. Jerome has extensive training and experience in applying EMDR to work with children, adolescents and adults, including adults with complex trauma and dissociation. |
