Training and Experience |
Dr. Van Brunt has over 15 years post-doctoral experience, and specializes in working with adults ages 18 and up, including geriatric populations. She completed her doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in Counseling Psychology 2008 and is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in the state of Virginia. She completed her education and training at the University of Maryland College Park, Iowa State University, the University of Delaware, and the University of Mary Washington. Dr. Van Brunt has been working in private practice since 2010, and is a currently a director at WellSpring.
Dr. Van Brunt has extensive experience working with young adult populations both in and outside of the college setting, and spent six years as a psychologist providing supportive care and evaluation for in-patient residents at several skilled nursing and geriatric care facilities. Dr. Van Brunt enjoys working with anxiety, ADD/ADHD, Neurodivergence, trauma, PTSD, women’s issues, infertility, caregiver distress, distressing life transitions including aging, and mood disorders. Dr. Van Brunt has specialized training in the treatment of trauma, and has been practicing EMDR for nearly 12 years. She completed EMDR Training through an EMDRIA approved training site and has regularly attended additional advanced trainings and ongoing consultation in EMDR. Dr. VanBrunt has training in Internal Family Systems (IFS), and in integrating IFS and EMDR. In addition to weekly therapy, Dr. VanBrunt provides a limited number of EMDR Intensive Therapy Retreats throughout the year. |

Dr. Van Brunt’s client’s would describe her as warm and inviting, while also being direct and honest. Dr. Van Brunt uses a variety of approaches based on client needs, but generally focuses on how previous experiences create problematic patterns and responses in one’s present life. When working with ADHD she helps clients to better understand their unique brain chemistry and helps to improve coping based on that. She also often uses EMDR as a tool in her work, along with strategies from Internal Family Systems.
