Training and Experience |
Jessica “Jess” Miller is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Virginia. She attended the University of Southern California where she earned a Master’s Degree in Social Work. Jess has been working with children, adolescents and their families in the Northern Virginia area in the foster care, school, residential and intensive in-home settings. She has worked in the inpatient, outpatient, IOP, PHP and residential settings with adults both as a clinician and supervising clinicians. She has more than 12 years of experience working with children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Jess has facilitated support groups for foster parents, substance use/abuse groups for adolescents/adults, communication/social skills groups for children/adults and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy/Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Groups for adults in various settings.
Jess has experience working with a wide range of issues from ADHD, trauma/PTSD, anxiety, depression, learning/emotional/intellectual and/or developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, substance use disorders, mood, thought, and personality disorders. Jess has been trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Problem Solving Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Directive/Non-Directive Play Therapy, and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Jess also pulls techniques from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Parent Child Interaction Therapy and many more. |
Therapeutic Approach |
Jess’ treatment approach focuses on holistic healing through the utilization of clients’ strengths. She believes that each person’s journey varies from one to the next and their treatment plan should be just as unique. She believes in the power of positive thinking and her methods often utilize an integrative approach combining practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, mindfulness, and Art/Expressive Therapies. Jess has been trained in evidence-based practices (above) and integrates them into treatment based on client needs/wants. She believes that healing begins with meeting clients where they are, focusing on their strengths and utilizing them to foster growth and illicit change.
