EMDR Consultation For Professionals

What is an EMDR
Certified Therapist?

An EMDR Certified Therapist has completed the Basic Training (parts 1 and 2 and all required hours of consultation), in addition to the following:
  • an additional 20 hours of consultation with an EMDRIA Approved Consultant (up to 10 of these hours may be completed in a group; 10 must be individual hours)
  • 12 hours of EMDRIA approved continuing education
  • at least 50 EMDR sessions with at least 25 clients
  • For a full list of criteria see the EMDRIA website

Why become certified?

Although professionals can conduct EMDR with clients after completing the basic training, going through the certification process often helps clinicians to develop more advanced skills and to be more effective in their work with clients. Most professionals report feeling more comfortable with EMDR, able to apply EMDR techniques to a wider range of clients and presenting concerns, and more efficient and effective in providing EMDR therapy. In addition, being certified allows you to be listed in the EMDRIA directory as an EMDR Certified Therapist. If you wish to eventually become an EMDR Consultant, you would first need to become and EMDR Certified Therapist.

What is an EMDR Approved Consultant?

An Approved Consultant has completed all of the above requirements and is an EMDR Certified Therapist, in addition to the following:
  • An additional 20 hours of consultation of consultation, focused on building skills in consulting with other professionals
  • An additional 12 hours of EMDRIA approved CE hours
  • minimum of 3 years experience doing EMDR, as well as at least 300 EMDR sessions with at least 75 clients.
  • Often, they have also gotten experience assisting with EMDR trainings and/or running EMDR consultation groups.
  • For a complete list, please see the EMDRIA website

Meet our Consultant:
Elisabeth Jerome, Ph.D.

Dr. Jerome is an EMDR Certified Therapist and Consultant in Training with the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA). She has been practicing EMDR for over 10 years, and has assisted in EMDR trainings in addition to running consultation groups and providing individual EMDR consultation. Dr. Jerome has extensive training in applying EMDR to work with children and adolescents, as well as adults with complex trauma. She completed her approved consultant hours through the Trauma Institute/Child Trauma Institute (TI/CTI), and continues to be involved in assisting with TICTI trainings with Dr. Ricky Greenwald, an internationally recognized expert in EMDR and trauma therapy. Dr. Jerome has additional training in applying EMDR to work with children including a certificate in EMDR Child Specialist through the AGATE Institute.

Dr. Jerome is able to provide consultation hours toward basic trainings, those seeking EMDR certification or Approved Consultant Status, and those seeking to develop more advanced skills in EMDR. Consultation is available to individuals in any location, and can be completed virtually.

"My approach to consultation is structured and supportive. I believe in meeting consultees where they are, and encouraging them to push themselves to develop their skills to their full potential. Many (if not most) clinicians experience some insecurity after the basic training, and I am a firm believer that no question is too small. I will encourage you to start where you are, ask questions, and build skills from there. When possible, use of video and/or audio recordings of sessions, or sessions transcripts, is encouraged. My goal is for consultees to come away from their consultation experience feeling better prepared, more confident, and excited about the use of EMDR therapy in their practice. Please reach out with any questions, and I look forward to working with you!"
